Desserts include flans, cakes, creams and fruit.
Sightseeing this afternoon will include Rio's business district, where colonial and modern architecture stand side-by-side. See the Opera House and Carioca Square, and compare the traditional and modern styles of the Candelaria Church and Metropolitan Cathedral. If time and traffic conditions permit see the "Sambodromo", the site of Rio's famous Carnival parade. End the day with a visit to Sugarloaf Mountain, for a spectacular view of the city. Today's tour begins with a stunning drive into the mountains outside of Rio, to the summer resort of Petropolis. This quaint European-like town used to be the summer-residence of Dom Pedro II, Brazil's last emperor. The Imperial Palace, now a museum, boasts the crown jewels, as well as an impressive collection of fine china, furniture, paintings and tapestries from the Imperial Court. Afterwards, the tour passes by the Quitandinha and the Cathedral. Lunch today will be at a typical churrascaria in Petropolis. Return to Rio de Janeiro late this afternoon.
